  • Starting football young: Why it is important to start football at a young age

Starting sport at a young age has many benefits. It doesn’t matter how early you start your child with football, it can be at the toddler age, pre-school age or during primary school when they get started with football. Either way, the benefits will be tangible.

We’ve created four age-banded classes that are designed to develop the children at their specific age-group.

Our fun football sessions are aimed for young children to build the foundations of their active lives. The sessions are structured in a way that allows the children to get familiar with the routines, whilst staying slightly out of their comfort zones once they move up a class.

In each age-group, the sessions will be specifically aimed at developing football skills, social skills, and confidence levels.

What do the children do at the different age-groups?

There are four age-banded classes at Pro Elite that allow the children to develop their football skills dependent on their journey and their age:

Toddler football sessions: Typically from 18 months to 3 years old

In these classes the toddlers develop their social, listening and confidence skills whilst working on their balance, co-ordination and ball-striking. Children are introduced to football by their coaches in a fun and pressure-free environment.

Pre-School football sessions: Typically from 3 to 5 years old

In these classes, the children are pushed a little more, whilst still learning colours, numbers and counting in a disguised learning tool where they learn through play.

With the ball, there is a stronger emphasis on “little touches” so that the children can learn football in a way that will set them up for the older classes. They are taught to dribble, shoot and even play in 1v1 matches.

Reception and early-years classes: Typically from 5 to 7 years old

In these classes, the children will be introduced to more technical football drills that will help them learn their core-skills and manipulate the football in the way that they want to. The children are introduced to 2v2 and 3v3 match play so that they children can learn teamwork and understand when to dribble, pass and shoot!

Primary age football classes: Typically from 7 to 11 years old

In these sessions, the children are taught how to practise 1v1 drills and learn how to be comfortable on the football in every situation, learning how to outwit their opponent using their skill and their brain.

These 1v1 skills are crucial to their development and has been implemented by our Academy director after his years working with professional clubs.
